Large-scale digital transformation for increased efficiency and optimized security in the financial sector

Major infrastructure upgrades
The METRO project (Modernization of the Technological Environment and Operational Enhancement) is a global project to update all of the technological infrastructures of a large Canadian financial institution.

The need The challenge The solution The benefits Technologies

The METRO project, due to its scale (30.8M$ over 3 years, 5000 positions) and its specificities, requires highly technically advanced resources in infrastructure and virtualization, in applications and security, but also in business and operational processes.

The main challenge for Cortex génie humain was to identify and respond to the client's needs, understand the issues of the business lines and propose efficient technical solutions while controlling costs and respecting compliance requirements and regulations.

The first phase of the project consisted of a very in-depth preliminary analysis of the existing processes and technologies at our client. This analysis focused on the requirements of the different IT groups and the guiding principles of the project. Cortex génie humain carried out the review of the target architecture and identified and documented the technological solutions.

The preliminary analysis also made it possible to identify critical applications, identify and document application incompatibilities with the technological target and solutions for converting applications at risk. Finally, the project plan was produced to establish the migration strategy for centralized infrastructures, describe the major activities to be accomplished, assess the efforts required and identify external prerequisites within the framework of the Servers project. The Cortex génie humain team then participated in all phases of the implementation of the proposed solutions, in particular the migration of server operating systems and 5,000 workstations, the implementation of virtualization technologies and a SAN, as well as the upgrading of telecommunications, hardware and software infrastructures and Microsoft management tools.

Regarding applications, the Cortex Génie Humain team participated in the upgrade and deployment of banking transactional applications as well as the upgrade of all departmental applications for compatibility with the new transactional platforms. The security component consisted of conceptualizing and implementing new banking security standards in accordance with the Basel Accords and ISO standards, defining a three-year security plan and updating business continuity plans. Finally, Cortex Génie Humain participated in the review of user business and operational processes and surrounding IT operations.

The METRO project helped better support the bank's operations and growth while increasing its operational efficiency and reducing operating and support costs. This project was recognized by PMI Montréal for the quality of project management at the Elixir Gala. Our client was thus recognized in the Information and Communication Technology category.
